5 Things I learned Living In KOrea

1. Studying Korean

Even if it means learning basic Korean words and phrases, it can help you save time and help you get around the city with ease. Plus, learning to read and write Korean is way easier than it looks!

2. Living expenses

Seoul is undeniably one of the most expensive cities in the world. Many of the foreigners worry about their bank account towards the end of the month because they’ve spent so much money on just food, coffee, and their basic necessities. However, as opposed to spending 20000 Won (approximately $20) on eating food outside at a restaurant, one could easily buy 4-5 day’s worth of groceries at the local E-mart.

3. The weather

Seoul is absolutely mesmerizing in the Spring and the Autumn, but what about Winter and Summer? In the summer, Seoul can go up to 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit. On top of the scorching heat, the high levels of humidity make it even harder to walk around. In the winter, Seoul can go as low as -18 degrees Celsius or -0.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Pack your clothes according to the weather!

4. The air quality

“Yellow dust” as the Korean’s call it, has been a major issue for a long time now. Yellow dust is comprised of aluminum, calcium, iron, and other toxic particles in the air that increase the risk of respiratory and skin reactions. This is mainly the reason you will see countless people in Seoul wearing air pollution masks. If you are an individual suffering from Asthma or other respiratory illnesses, be aware of the air pollution levels!

5. Get out of the city.

Most tourists who come to Korea stay in Seoul for the majority of their trip. What they don’t know is that there are other places in Korea that are just as interesting and exciting. Seoul is definitely the most developed city and has many interesting things to offer, but if you ever want to escape the city and truly experience the culture of Korea, get out of the city!
